The Inn at Meadowcroft Farm is the centerpiece of a reconstructed pioneer village. Three 200-year-old log structures have been restored to create The Inn, which features the original two-story log structure built on its farm (circa 1820) and two additional cabins (circa 1795), which were moved and reconstructed. Guests visiting the area will be able to stay on the farm, dine here, experience the lifestyle, and participate in daily activities and scheduled events. The farm is already well known for its all-natural, hand-made, preservative-free pickles, relishes and spreads made using recipes from the owner’s grandmother.

The Neighborhood Italian Kitchen Broiler Room has been bringing authentic Italian dishes to the historic town of Berryville since August 2017. In addition to the Italian dishes, The Broiler Room offers amazing pizzas, a selection of aged cuts of beef and a full-service bar. Reminiscent of the quaint Italian steakhouses in New York City and Brooklyn, diners can inspect the various cuts of meat available in an aging cooler off the front lobby. A covered outdoor seating area is also available for al fresco (“all’aperto” in Italian) dining.

Front Royal

Front Royal has seen a revitalization on its Main Street and throughout the town, with 16 new businesses opening in the last year. From high-end outdoor equipment outfitters and a new “base camp” for Appalachian Trail hikers (including free showers and laundry service!) to an art gallery, brewpub and new restaurants, there are lots of new things to see and do here.

Located near the campus of James Madison University, Hotel Madison and Shenandoah Valley Conference Center is set to open May 1, 2018. The hotel is Harrisonburg’s first full-service hotel and conference center, featuring 230 guest rooms, 21,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a full-service farm-to-table restaurant, indoor pool, and fitness center.

Halcyon Days Cider Company and apple orchard labyrinth is scheduled to open in summer 2018. Modeled after the Chartres Labyrinth in France, this apple orchard is anything but average. Owner Larry Krietemeyer has planted approximately 2,500 dwarf apple trees and is training the limbs to create walls in the form of a labyrinth — offering approximately two miles of pathways for visitors to explore. Even though the trees are young, they already bloom and produce baby apples.  In addition, Sheridan Livery Inn & Restaurant, a boutique inn with an onsite restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, announced its opening of a new wine bar this spring. Sheridan Livery Inn & Restaurant has developed a reputation for serving food that reflects rustic sophistication. These two qualities are echoed by its new wine bar featuring a hand selected collection of 100+ wines by the bottle, and wine on tap featuring 6 different wines.

The historic main street in the town of Strasburg will welcome three new businesses in 2018: two new breweries and a bed & breakfast. Box Office Brewery, which is located within a restored historic movie theatre, and Siblings Rivalry Brewery will offer local craft beer. Both will be part of the Shenandoah Spirits Trail, which includes more than 40 breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries within the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Holliday House Bed & Breakfast is located in one of Strasburg’s oldest homes. It’s been renovated to offer all the modern amenities, but the highlight of the B&B is the food. All guests are treated to breakfast, and dinner is also available upon request.

The Blackburn Inn, a restored 49-room hotel originally designed by master builder and Thomas Jefferson protégé Thomas Blackburn, will open in late spring 2018. Offering an upscale, indulgent experience by blending its historic story and architecture with modern, state-of-the-art service, the boutique hotel will also feature a 16-seat indoor bistro and bar. In true Virginia spirit, menu items will emphasize locally sourced ingredients and feature local wines, beers and ciders. The Inn is a five-minute walk from downtown Staunton, where guests will be charmed by eclectic architecture and plenty of shops.

The only kombucha tasting room in Virginia will open in spring 2018 on East Main Street. Blue Ridge Bucha recently relocated its production facility to Waynesboro. Though there are a number of kombucha tasting rooms on the West Coast, the closest one to Blue Ridge Bucha’s tasting room is in Maine.
