Allegheny Mountain Institute is a 501(c)3 educational non-profit, whose mission is to cultivate healthy communities through food and education. AMI’s Allegheny Farm is a working educational farm located at the top of a triple watershed divide at 4200’ in Highland County, VA. The Farm houses AMI’s flagship program, an 18-month Farm and Food Fellowship that prepares and empowers individuals to become teachers and ambassadors for a more vibrant and accessible local food system. During the Fellowship, Fellows spend six months living, working and learning on the Allegheny Farm and the give back through a year in non-profit service in Augusta and Highland counties. The Allegheny Farm also welcomes both day and overnight guests. AMI’s lodge-based Farm Stay program hosts families, individuals, and anyone seeking to learn more about sustainable agriculture and the joy of eating freshly picked and prepared foods. In addition, visitors are welcome to participate in workshops and events on the farm between May-October.
