Brent Funkhouser’s brand of achingly uplifting songwriting was born out of the river bends and mountain hollows of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. His style of songwriting displays influence from classics like Tom Petty, americana contemporaries like Jason Isbell, and Texas/red dirt songsters like Turnpike Troubadours, filtered through his own original voice. The singer-songwriter has travelled up and down the east coast performing to attentive audiences, opening for award-winning artists such as Judy Collins and Phil Vassar in the process. His debut album “The Next Karaoke Star” sees Funkhouser breaking free from the constraints his DIY approach has previously put on him, working with new musicians and engineers to create a lush, varied soundscape with an orchestral flare.
